EV300 Overview

Why Choose a Meter with True-RMS Measurements?

A linear load is a non-distorted, sinusoidal (sine) wave with symmetrical transitions between peaks and valleys and can be accurately measured with an "average sensing" meter. However, because electronic loads, such as VFDs, LED lighting systems, or computers, can create non-sinusoidal or distorted AC waveforms, a true-RMS ("root mean square") meter must be used to collect accurate data. True-RMS meters do not rely on the "averaging" method to calculate AC current. Instead, they use the Root Mean Square formula to accurately calculate distorted waveforms. When measuring a distorted load, a true-RMS meter will precisely calculate the amperage while the average sensing meter may under- or over-report the same load by 15% or more. Any measurement project can benefit from the superior accuracy of a true-RMS meter.
